Mr. Steam MSSUPER1R2401 — Super 10 kW Steam Shower Generator (240V, 1-Phase)

If you're spec'ing out a steam shower generator and the 9 kW Mr. Steam MS400 series isn't enough, the MSSUPER1R2401 is your next step up. This is Mr. Steam's 10 kW Super generator — the biggest single-phase residential unit they make — and it's built for steam rooms that top out around 360 cubic feet with standard non-porous tile. In practice, that means large master bath steam showers, custom enclosures with vaulted or extra-tall ceilings, and rooms where you've got enough natural stone or glass to bump the effective cubic footage past the 9 kW threshold. A lot of contractors end up here after running the Mr. Steam sizing calculator and realizing the MS400E wasn't going to cut it. If your enclosure is borderline, keep in mind that stone, marble, and exterior walls all add to the load — when in doubt, size up. The MSSUPER1R2401 pairs with the same iSteam, AirTempo, and iTempo controls as the rest of the Mr. Steam lineup, so you're not giving up any features by going to the larger unit.

Who this generator is for

The Super 10 kW is designed for larger residential steam enclosures — roughly 250 to 360 cubic feet with standard tile or porcelain finishes. That translates to something like a 5×6 enclosure with a 10-foot ceiling, or a 4×5 with stone accents that bump up the effective cubic footage. If your space is tiled floor-to-ceiling with no stone, you may be able to get away with the 9 kW MS400R2401 and save some money. If you have heavy natural stone throughout (marble walls, granite bench, slate floor), you could even need to step up to the 15 kW MX series. The right answer depends entirely on your enclosure dimensions and materials — run your numbers through our steam shower sizing calculator to confirm before ordering.

Standard vs. Express Steam — understanding the model difference

This is the standard heat-up version of the Super 10 kW. It produces the same steam output and quality as the Express Steam variant (MSSUPER1R2401X), but takes a few minutes longer to reach operating temperature. For a 10 kW unit serving a larger enclosure, that difference can be noticeable — steam-up time on the standard model is typically 3–5 minutes depending on your room's thermal mass, versus roughly 60–90 seconds with Express Steam. If you're using the steam shower daily and want instant gratification, the Express Steam version is worth the premium. If this is more of a weekend luxury, the standard model delivers identical steam quality once it's running.

Why 10 kW instead of pairing two smaller units

We get this question a lot. Homeowners with large enclosures sometimes wonder if they should run two 5 kW generators instead of one 10 kW. The single larger unit is almost always the better choice — simpler electrical requirements (one dedicated circuit instead of two), one control connection, one drain, one point of service, and lower total cost. The Super series uses Mr. Steam's largest copper heating element, which is industrial-grade and designed for the sustained thermal demand of a big room. Two smaller units working in tandem introduce complexity without a real performance advantage.

Installation considerations for the Super 10 kW

Like all Mr. Steam residential generators, the MSSUPER1R2401 installs remotely — in a closet, cabinet, under a sealed bench, or in an insulated attic within 25 feet of the steam head. At 10 kW on 240V single-phase, this unit draws approximately 42 amps, so it needs a dedicated 50-amp breaker and appropriately sized wiring (typically 6-gauge). Make sure your electrician verifies panel capacity before ordering — older homes with 100-amp service may need a panel upgrade to accommodate the circuit. The unit also needs a cold water supply line and a drain connection. Physical footprint is compact enough for most utility closets.

Built for the long haul

Full stainless steel construction inside and out — tank, housing, and all internals. The copper heating element is the largest in the industry and designed to be removed and serviced without replacing the generator. The onboard microprocessor handles temperature regulation, the 60-minute auto shutoff safety timer, and diagnostic LED indicators that make troubleshooting straightforward for your service technician. Mr. Steam backs this unit with a lifetime residential warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship.

Compatible with the full Mr. Steam ecosystem

The MSSUPER1R2401 works with every current Mr. Steam digital control — iTempoPlus, TempoFlex, and the iSteam3 — as well as the SteamLinx WiFi module for smartphone and voice control via Alexa. You can also add AromaTherapy (essential oil delivery), ChromaTherapy (LED mood lighting), and MusicTherapy (Bluetooth audio) either at installation or down the road. All therapy accessories connect directly to the generator's control board.
